Businesses Need Free Car Parking Extension, Plaid Demand

Small businesses need an extension to free car parking until at least next July, according to Plaid Cymru Town Councillor Rhys Mills.

Councillor Rhys Mills has been engaging with businesses in his Blackwood ward over the past month to see what help they may need over the Christmas period and beyond.

Plaid Cymru has sent an open letter signed by over 30 small businesses to Caerphilly County’s the Car Parks Task and Finish Group urging them to act. The Task and Finish Group are due to report in December

Plaid Cymru Town Councillor Rhys Mills said: "The council needs to extend free parking for the first half of 2021 to encourage people to come back into our town centres and help traders as they try to recover from this crisis.

"I have spoken to many small business owners over the past month and they agree that free parking is no longer a 'nice to have'. It has now become essential to their very survival."

Open letter to Task and Finish Group

We the undersigned would like the Car Parks Task and Finish Group to actively consider the adoption of free parking until at least July 2021.

We strongly believe that this is no longer a nice to have for small businesses but a must-have if we are to survive and flourish in the future.

Sincerely,

Cllr Rhys Mills   (Blackwood South)
