Plaid Cymru is calling for Caerphilly County’s two Tokyo Olympic medallists to be given the Freedom of the county borough.
Lauren Price won a gold in boxing while Lauren Williams clinched a silver in taekwondo.
Plaid Cymru believes they should both be honoured for their fantastic achievements.
In an email to council leader, Philippa Marsden, Councillor Colin Mann, leader of the Plaid Cymru group on Caerphilly County Borough Council, said: “I know that everyone is very proud of the achievements of our two successful Olympians, Lauren Price and Lauren Williams. Lauren Price’s Gold Medal success, built on top of huge achievements in other sports – football, taekwondo and kickboxing - prove what an amazing talent she is. Lauren Williams who won silver was only a few seconds away from also gaining gold.
“I know that you have mentioned recognising the success of the two women and I would like to suggest, on behalf of the Plaid group, that we consider granting the Freedom of the county borough to the two athletes. I know that the Freedom status is not given lightly but this success certainly deserves consideration.”
